Jennifer Wiper, an experienced sustainability and aquaculture policy expert who is well known within Canada's aquaculture sector, has been appointed Director of Sustainability at Cooke Aquaculture.

She announced the move on her LinkedIn profile this week, marking a return to the Canadian-headquartered fish farming company where she previously spent 13 years in various senior sustainability and compliance roles.

Wiper most recently worked with the Government of New Brunswick, where she held the position of Acting Provincial Director of Marketing and Trade – Food. Prior to this, she was a Senior Policy Advisor, focusing on agri-food and seafood sector strategy and development.

Her background also includes six years of leadership within the Aquaculture Association of Canada, where she served as Director from 2018 to 2024.

Now rejoining Cooke, Wiper brings a depth of experience in certification standards, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. In her previous work for the aquaculture company, she led certification programmes across North American operations, working on standards such as Best Aquaculture Practices and the British Retail Consortium Food Safety certification.

In March, Cooke announced its subsidiary Kelly Cove Salmon was taking over former AquaBounty Canada's hatchery on Prince Edward Island. The company said it will use the land-based facility to produce large smolts for stocking its existing ocean salmon farming sites in Atlantic Canada, and had rehired seven of AquaBounty's former employees, who had been laid off following the hatchery's closure announced in December 2024.
