Cooke Scotland has commissioned a state-of-the-art feeding and service vessel from Moen Marin, the world's largest supplier of working boats to the aquaculture industry, to meet the needs of its operations in the Northern Isles of Orkney.
The 'NabWork 1785' will feature a single hull made of steel, allowing for easy switching between feeding work and on-site services. It has been designed by Marin Design in collaboration with Moen Marin and the giant salmon farmer.
In addition, Scale AQ, which became the sole owner of Moen Marin AS in 2019, will provide the onboard feeding system. This system will allow the silos to be removed and a discharge hatch to be installed on the deck, enabling the vessel to switch to service work within hours.
"The vessel is designed with the sole purpose of efficient production of high-quality salmon in harsh environments, while ensuring the comfort and safety of the crew. The vessel provides the flexibility needed for the fish farmer as a multipurpose platform, in situations that demand service vessel capacities," assured Moen Marin Sales Manager UK Robin Johansen.
Furthermore, Orkney North Isles Area Manager at Cooke Scotland, Stewart Rendall, explained: "This larger vessel will effectively do the job of the two boats we currently use to service the farms. It can carry more feed and deliver it to the fish a lot quicker, therefore reducing feed time per pen and allowing this vessel to service the farm in a day without the need to return to the shore to reload."
Cooke Scotland has 380 staff, so it is one of the largest employers in the Scottish Northern Isles. Moreover, has harvested and shipped over 52 million fresh-farmed salmon to more than 16 countries worldwide.
Additionally, the company has donated over £700,000 through the Cooke Community Benefit Fund to locally-led events, activities, groups, and community projects predominantly in Scotland and Northern England.
In May 2024, Cooke celebrated 10 years of business in the United Kingdom and took the opportunity to present a new brand identity: Cooke Scotland.
