Netherlands-based startup Farm in a Box (FiaB)—a modular, prefab solution for sustainable land-based fish farming using Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)—announced yesterday its first market-ready product: the Ozone Reaction Chamber.
In a statement posted on its LinkedIn page, the company explained that, for more than 2 years, it has redesigned the RAS system from scratch and that, as it completed the detailed design and cost calculation, confirming a CAPEX between 30 and 50% lower compared to current solutions, it was also applying those same fundamental principles to critical components throughout the system.
"That resulted in game changing products we are now ready to commercialise as a standalone for existing and new RAS operations," it said.
The subsidiary of AquaFounders Capital—the project development company led by land-based aquaculture pioneers Ohad Maiman and Thue Holm—added that testing of its Skimmer is about to begin with an early adopter farm.

Born from the ongoing development of its modular fish farming system, about its debut product, the Ozone Reaction Chamber, FiaB said it reflects the same innovative approach the company is bringing to RAS design.
Developed alongside Plast Solutions ApS and ULTRAAQUA UV & Ozone Systems, according to the statement, the chamber provides a precise retention time after ozone treatment, ensuring that the ozone reacts completely with the water for effective disinfection.
Farm in a Box added that its Ozone Reaction Chamber is suitable for a wide range of uses, from wastewater to recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), to other land-based applications requiring reliable post-ozone performance.
Also through posts on LinkedIn, both partners of AquaFounders Capital and promoters of the Farm in a Box project, Ohad Maiman and Thue Holm, reacted to the launch.
"First product from Farm in a Box just hit the market!" Ohad Maiman wrote. "As we advance towards proving our complete land based farming system with an early adopter farm- targeting short assembly time and significant CAPEX reduction- some of the critical components we designed have proven to be game changers on their own and are market ready," he added.
"Working hard to get the cost of building RAS landbased farming down and now we are starting to sell our first products that is a part of the whole solution for modular mass produce fish farming units," Thue Holm stated, for his part. "Great full for the collaboration with Plast Solutions ApS and ULTRAAQUA UV & Ozone Systems - much more to come," he concluded.
The company, which announced that next year, along with its complete farming system, it will also launch additional products designed to achieve fast assembly and low CAPEX to support scale in the RAS sector, took the opportunity to issue a "special thanks" to its first investors, Innovatiefonds Noord-Holland (North Holland Innovation Fund).
Last July, the North Holland Innovation Fund provided Farm in a Box with EUR 350,000. The Netherlands-based startup, which had already presented the initial design of its plug-and-play aquaculture solution in March 2024, said then that it would use this funding to develop the software prototype of its integrated RAS control system and apply for patents.
