Norway's Firda Seafood Group has announced it has signed an agreement to acquire a controlling stake in family-owned trout farmer Landøy Fiskeoppdrett AS.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Landøy family will have a 49% stake, and will continue working at the company, which currently employs 8 staff members.

Based on the island of Værlandet in Askvoll Municipality, Vestland county, Landøy Fiskeoppdrett has three aquaculture licences, and four locations in operation.

Announcing the news in a LinkedIn post on 31 January, Firda, which is itself a family-owned business, described Landøy Fiskeoppdrett as "a family business with roots in Værlandet, where the second and third generations are now active in the operation".

"Landøy will continue as a separate company, but gain access to services and expertise from our organization through the collaboration, such as harvesting and sales services, access to boats and personnel in operation, smolt, administrative services, etc.," Firda said in its announcement.

"For Firda, the collaboration is important to ensure greater access to raw materials, precisely so that we ensure efficient and good operations in all parts of the group. In this way, both Firda and Landøy will ensure further development and growth, and safe and good jobs in the local communities where we operate," the company added.
