Indonesian aquaculture tech startup eFishery has acquired a local AI-powered Internet of Things startup Dycode X, according to a report in Tech in Asia.

According to the report, the entire DycodeX team will be incorporated into eFishery's product division, to drive forward the company's AI-powered products.

Currently eFishery's product eFeeder uses AI to enable automatic feeding for fish and shrimp farmers.

According to Tech in Asia, eFishery is planning to launch 10 new aquaculture services within 2-3 years, including IoT products and platforms, generative AI and other technologies.

"Acqui-hire"confirmed by DycodeX, after 2-year process

The CEO of DycodeX, Andri Yadi, is to continue leading his team as a vice-president at eFishery.

“Andri Yadi and his team can strengthen and accelerate the implementation of AI and IoT in the eFishery ecosystem,” eFishery CEO Gibran Huzaifah reportedly said in a press statement.

DycodeX separately confirmed it had been acquired but did not mention eFishery by name.

"Yes, it’s official – the DycodeX team was acqui-hired," the start-up announced in a LinkedIn post.

"The adventure kicked off with early, promising discussions between our co-founder Andri Yadi and the leader of a like-minded visionary company. From that pivotal moment to crossing the finish line, the journey spanned nearly two years," the DycodeX post stated.

Aquaculture "unicorn" eFishery's global ambitions

Last year, eFishery secured US$200 Million from its Series D Funding round, taking it to a total valuation of US$1.4 billion, and making the Indonesian startup the first aquaculture "unicorn".

Most recently, eFishery has successfully concluded its first commercial pilot in India, which the company described as "significant milestone" in its global expansion drive.
