The founder of Denmark's Billund Aquaculture, Christian Sørensen, has announced he is launching a new company specialising in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), under the name Billund Aquatech.
According to a press release, the new venture, which will bring together "selected experts from the organisation to form a collaborative alliance", seeks to build on the legacy of Billund Aquaculture Group, which closed its doors earlier this year after almost forty years in business.
"This new venture combines decades of expertise in the design, engineering, and project execution of RAS, while each partner operates independently," the new entity stated in its announcement.
The formal launch is slated for later this year, Sørensen indicated, with more details on its services to be released in a forthcoming announcement.
"We are excited to embark on this new journey with a team that has been at the forefront of RAS innovation for decades, and we are confident that together we will achieve significant growth and success over the next five years," Sørensen said.
Billund Aquaculture, a specialist in the design, implementation, and service of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) for land-based fish farming, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. The land-based aquaculture technology specialist, which was founded in Denmark in 1986, was unable to secure sufficient capital to continue its operations.
Following its closure, competitors took over several of Billund Aquaculture's ongoing projects and intellectual property, as well as hiring former staff members.
During August, Årdal Aqua announced it had contracted AKVA group to take over and complete the construction of its post-smolt facility in Årdal, and in September, Pure Salmon Technology announced it had acquired all of Billund Aquaculture Group's intellectual property (IP) assets.
Later that same month, Danish RAS specialist Alpha Aqua hired three former Billund Aquaculture employees to its team, including appointing Bjarne Hald Olsen as its Chief Sales Officer.
