The Canadian business organization, Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce, has decided to support Excel Career College's AI in Aquaculture program, which aims to help professionalize British Columbia's aquaculture workforce for the future.

For its part, Excel Career College is responding to industry demand with this initiative, developed in collaboration with regional aquaculture leaders and community stakeholders, including the Chamber.

Among its contributions, the Chamber has helped develop the program and supported students in their transition from graduation to entering the workforce.

"By bringing together educators, employers, and industry experts, this program reflects exactly the kind of cross-sector teamwork that builds a more resilient, future-ready region. This initiative is proof that by working together, we can turn challenges into momentum," said Tracey Clarke, Executive Director of the Comox Valley Chamber.

Through a hybrid format, the 17-week program alternates between online theoretical learning and hands-on, in-person training at Excel’s Courtenay campus, the main city of the Comox Valley, located on Vancouver Island.

The curriculum covers topics ranging from artificial intelligence (AI) integration and sustainable aquaculture to ethical digital practices, entrepreneurship, and environmental management. In addition, certifications such as WHMIS, Forklift, SVOP, CPR, and Confined Space are included.

"At the Chamber, we believe that strong partnerships across education, business, and government are essential to regional prosperity. The AI in Aquaculture program is a shining example of what’s possible when we work together with purpose," the Chamber's statement reads.

Furthermore, the BC Government announced the formation of a new Premier's task force on agriculture and food economy to ensure BC's food supply and food economy continues to grow in the face of U.S. tariffs uncertainty, and to help farmers find new markets.
