Simulation of the Hydra, Nordlaks' semi closed-containment design

Norwegian fish farming company Nordlaks is nearing completion of its Hydra project, a semi-closed containment system due to be deployed at a test location in Sørvika in the Hadsel municipality of Norway in 2025.
The Hydra project, a semi closed-containment design with a volume of 86,700 cubic metres, was acquired by Nordlaks in 2021 when it took over the company Hydra Salmon Company II AS. At the time, the company described the project as "an important contribution to the further development of Nordlaks and to the technological diversity in the aquaculture industry".
The Hydra, designed by NSK Ship Design, is being built by Gemak Shipyard, a prominent Turkish shipbuilding group, who have now awarded a contract to Norwegian company Maritime Montering to outfit the facility.
Maritime Montering is contracted to provide complete accommodation and technical insulation for the Hydra. Established in 1981, Maritime Montering specialises in outfitting interiors and accommodation for boats and marine structures. The contract marks the engineering firm's first offshore fish farming project, which it described as "a milestone" and "an exciting expansion in our portfolio and a strong step into the aquaculture industry."
