The Peruvian Ministry of Production (Produce), through the National Fisheries Development Fund (FONDEPES), conducted training sessions in June to promote sustainable aquaculture in specific regions of the country.
Specifically, the 164 participants, including students, teachers, and aquaculture producers, received training on technical skills in the aquaculture species management and cultivation, such as bivalve mollusks (scallops and Pacific oysters), tilapia, paco, and gamitana.
In coordination with educational institutions and regional governments, these in-person technical trainings took place in the regions of Áncash, Madre de Dios, La Libertad, Callao, and Piura.
"At PRODUCE, we continue to decentralize technical training to promote sustainable aquaculture, in partnership with regional governments and educational institutions. This joint effort is key to improving productivity and ensuring food security in the country," said Jesús Barrientos, Vice Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
In the Áncash region, the workshop Integrated Cultivation of Bivalve Mollusks was held, gathering 28 participants, while the Design and Management of Bivalve Mollusks Hatcheries workshop, requested by the National University of Santa, included 12 attendees.
In Callao, the 'Fishing Week 2025' event featured the Scallop Cultivation course, which was attended by 32 artisanal fishermen eager to enhance their aquaculture practices.
Additionally, in La Libertad, the course The Importance of Technology Generation and Transfer in Aquaculture presented the main innovations developed by FONDEPES at its Aquaculture Centers.
In Piura, technicians and producers from the Provincial Municipality of Sechura at the regional aquaculture center attended the workshop on Tilapia Reproduction and Production of Masculinized Fingerlings.
Finally, in Madre de Dios, the course Production Process of Paco and Gamitana was held, with 20 local producers and teachers from the Iberia Technological Institute participating.
