The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, has unveiled the Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (LACE) Project, which aims to strengthen the country's food security strategy.

LACE is a Public-Private Partnership between the Lagos State Government and Dula Agro-Services Limited, a company that provides solutions related to food production and animal nutrition. It is located on 35 hectares of land in the Igbonla axis of Epe Local Government.

Moreover, the project will feature a hatchery for 50 million fish fingerlings, a 24,000-tonne feed mill, and a 20,000-tonne fish processing center, the first of its kind not only in Lagos. The government aims to revolutionize the aquaculture sector by increasing fish production, creating jobs, and improving food security.

The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Emmanuel Audu, and key stakeholders of the project attended the site to monitor the progress of the work that has already begun.

"We are excited to see the commencement of work at the Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence. This project will transform the aquaculture sector, create jobs, and improve food security in our state. This will drastically boost fish production in Lagos, being an aquatic state," said Olusanya during the visit.

Finally, the Commissioner confirmed that LACE will serve as a One-Stop Centre for all fish farmers in the state, creating over 1,000 direct or indirect jobs.
