Pure Salmon France takes a major step forward in advancing its land-based salmon farm project (RAS – Recirculating Aquaculture System) in Verdon-sur-Mer (Gironde) after receiving positive approval from the public inquiry commission.

As reported by WeAreAquaculture in 2023, Pure Salmon had to provide additional hydrogeological studies on water management, following concerns that pumping brackish water for the fish farm's RAS system could affect the local drinking water supply.

This fact just reported confirms the validity of the technical and environmental studies carried out over several years for the processing facility, which will produce 10,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon per year, packaged in France for the local market.

The new farm will involve an investment of 275 million euros and create 250 local jobs, making it one of the main economic players in the Médoc region, in southwestern France.

The international company has designed the water treatment systems, process layout, capacities, and flows. The next step is to obtain the necessary permits to begin the project in the second half of 2026, with the first commercial sales planned for 2030.

"This positive opinion is a decisive step for our project. It reflects the robustness of our approach, our environmental commitment, and our desire to offer sustainable, local, and innovative salmon production," assured Stéphane Farouze, founder of Pure Salmon.
