If last week we reported that SalmonChile had announced the addition of the long-established Chilean salmon producer and exporter Invermar as a member, this week we have learned that the trade association is welcoming a new one: the aquaculture solutions provider Grupo Salmovac.
The Chilean salmon industry association is thus adding a new company to its more than 50 members, including producers and suppliers in the salmon farming value chain. In its announcement, SalmonChile emphasized that this addition brings two decades of knowledge and expertise in the sector, reinforcing its strength.
"We are very pleased to welcome Grupo Salmovac to our association. Their addition not only strengthens the unity of the sector, but also brings us the valuable experience of a family business with two decades of key experience in the southern region," said Patricio Melero, President of SalmonChile, commenting on the addition.
"Salmon farming is built on its entire value chain, and Salmovac's logistical and operational contribution will be fundamental to continue promoting a sustainable activity committed to the development of the territories," he added.
Grupo Salmovac is a Patagonian family holding company with over 20 years of experience providing maritime, logistical, and operational services to the aquaculture industry in southern Chile. Its main lines of business include land and sea transport of fuels, live fish transport, and specialized inoculation services for fish farms.
It was precisely this last service that SalmonChile highlighted most in its release, noting that, concerning vaccination, Salmovac has been a key player for half of the association's history.
Likewise, it also highlighted its strong impact on the development of southern Chile through its diverse range of industrial services, as the aquaculture supplier also has business units related to marine cabotage, bovine production, land transport, fuel-supply storage and warehousing, providing solutions adapted to the particularities of the southern regions of Chile.
With operations extending from the Los Lagos Region to Magallanes, the release also noted that it provides operational continuity to the salmon farming industry through infrastructure, logistical capacity and experience in territories of high geographical and operational complexity.
Commenting on Salmovac's incorporation into SalmonChile, Claudio Vennekool, the group's General Manager, celebrated its arrival and, as Cristian Fernández, General Manager of Invermar, had done last week, he also highlighted the collaboration possibilities that open up for the company after joining the association.
"For Grupo Salmovac, joining SalmonChile represents a significant step in our commitment to the sustainable and collaborative development of Chilean aquaculture," he said.
"As a family business founded in Puerto Montt, we deeply value the opportunity to contribute our operational and logistical expertise to an activity that has been key to the development of the region and thousands of families in southern Chile. We hope to actively contribute to strengthening collaboration among the various stakeholders in the sector," Vennekool added.
With the opening of the review process for applications to relocate aquaculture concessions initiated by Chile's Undersecretariat of Fisheries (Subpesca), and the "reconstruction bill" of the new Chilean government—which incorporates key measures such as legal certainty and streamlined permitting processes, priority tax stability, and employment tax credits—on its way to the Senate for final approval after passing through Congress, Chilean aquaculture is at a key moment that will mark the industry in the coming years.
