The Secretary General of Fisheries, Isabel Artime, has attended the 30th edition of Seafood Expo Global which is being celebrated in Barcelona. During her visit, she recalled the government's strong commitment "to incentivize the consumption of fishery and aquaculture products."

In addition, she highlighted the important work done by various stakeholders in the sector to offer a variety of products at affordable prices. Thanks to their innovative character, the Spanish fishing and aquaculture sector can offer their products through a more competitive and international market.

According to data from 2022 provided by the Ministry, Spain is the European leader in the volume of catches (over 807,195 tons) and aquaculture production (around 326,520 tons). Moreover, it exceeds one million tons of processed products.

The Spanish seafood processing sector requested the EU to be included in the NextGenerationEU funds. A couple of weeks ago, The European Commission confirmed the inclusion of the sector in receiving aid from the funds allocated by the EU to repair the damage caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
