The Sustainable Shrimp Partnership (SSP) celebrates its 6 years of trajectory promoting sustainability in global shrimp production. All SSP projects during these years promoted transparency, and environmental and social responsibility, while also ensuring that the shrimp they provide meets the highest standards, the organization expressed through a statement.

"SSP owes its success to the dedication of our members. Through their proactive efforts, they've shown that achieving clean and sustainable aquaculture is attainable," SSP Director Pamela Nath said.

Some of the companies that integrate the organization are Grupo Almar, Grupo Camaronero Champmar, Corporación Lanec, Omarsa, Promarisco, and Songa.

On the other hand, BASF, BIOMAR, DSM-Firmenich, INVE Aquaculture, Houdek-Prairie Aquatech, MSD Animal Health, Skretting, and Vitapro contribute as associate members.

Regarding this, Nath explained: "Our partnerships with our associate members seek to merge expertise, networking, and innovative resources to continue encouraging responsible practices. Thus, bringing diverse perspectives and specialized knowledge that complement our efforts. "

SSP's achievements during these 6 years

Through the SSP qualification criteria, constant farm audits have made done to ensure the absence of antibiotics, a neutral impact on water, and complete product traceability. Also, the use of Blockchain technology has allowed the guarantee of transparency and trust.

In addition, the Sustainability Leadership Roundtable focused on the creation of initiatives and collaborations related to the well-being of the industry. For example, the conservation and protection of mangroves in Ecuador, in partnership with Clark University and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Along this same line, the partnership with the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) seeks labor equity and living wages and with the Nature Conservancy (TNC) has worked for a shrimp production with a reduced carbon footprint

A few weeks ago, the SSP and the National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA) of Ecuador presented the 'Scale-Up Programme for Shrimp Hatcheries' at the AquaExpo Santa Elena event. The project aims to promote the sustainable management of shrimp larvae production and at the same time focus on the hatcheries that are committed to its product quality and environmental and social impact.

Finally, SSP organized the Shrimp Summit Ecuador. An event that brings together representatives of retail companies and seafood suppliers in the main markets to see firsthand how Ecuadorian shrimp production works.
