Wales allocates £1M fund to support the local aquaculture industry

The maximum grant award for a project is £100,000 and the minimum is £500.

The Rural Affairs Minister of Wales Lesley Griffiths has announced that £1 million of Welsh Government funding has been allocated to support the local marine, fisheries, and, aquaculture industry.

The funding belongs to the Welsh Marine and Fisheries Scheme, which according to the Welsh Government "aims to ensure environmentally and economically sustainable growth in the sector and help coastal communities prosper into the future."

In addition, the Minister said: "I am pleased to be able to make £1 million available to support our marine, fisheries and aquaculture industry. The Welsh Marine and Fisheries Scheme offers funding for a broad range of actions which can be vital in helping businesses to take advantage of opportunities and grow."

The application of the fund consists of activities from 11 separate categories including the promotion of aquaculture sites and equipment on vessels aimed at reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency, and professional advice for businesses.

Those businesses are related to marine environment sustainability marketing strategies. Also, projects about research on health safety and well-being needs for the sector can be presented.

Finally, the government informed through a press release that the maximum grant award is £100,000 and the minimum is £500. The 10th of May is the last day to submit applications and notifications will be sent in July.
