BioMar Norway has commissioned the construction and operation of a new feed vessel, which will ultimately be owned and operated by Norwegian shipping company Egil Ulvan Rederi.
With this new order, the feed company aims to strengthen its capacity, flexibility, and delivery reliability in the distribution of fish feed along the Norwegian coast.
"With this vessel we strengthen efficiency, capacity, flexibility and delivery reliability, so that we are well positioned to meet the industry's future needs," said Håvard Yngve Jørgensen, Managing Director of BioMar Norway.
The vessel, which will be built at Jiangsu Soho Marine Heavy Industry in China, will be equipped with a state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion system designed to reduce energy consumption under different operating conditions.
"We are proud to have been chosen as a partner for this project. Together we will develop a robust and efficient solution that meets the demanding requirements for logistics and operations in the aquaculture industry", assured Arild Hoff, CEO of Egil Ulvan Rederi.
Also, it will feature a battery system to reduce energy consumption during unloading operations at aquaculture facilities and while the vessel is berthed at port. Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2029.
Finally, to minimise disturbance to fish when the vessel is operating near aquaculture pens, the dynamic positioning system has been designed with energy efficiency and low noise levels in mind. Moreover, the vessel will be able to draw on shore power at BioMar’s factories.
Just a month ago, Inverlussa Marine Services announced that it had completed the acquisition of a 60% stake in LCL Shipping Limited, which is also partly owned by BioMar.
The company is a feed logistics operator specialising in aquaculture feed transportation, with Inverlussa assuming full day-to-day management of the business, while BioMar will retain a 40% stake.
