Spanish Pescapuerta strengthens its distribution network with new acquisition

Spanish fishing company, Pescapuerta, has acquired 100% of Congelados Llinares, a leading distributor of frozen products to the hospitality and foodservice sector, based in Algeciras, Cádiz.

Media outlets including La Voz de Galicia and Atlántico have reported on the acquisition. The latter also confirmed that the transaction is recorded in Spain's Official Gazette of the Mercantile Registry (BORME).

As a result of the transaction, it was also announced that Pedro Llinares Pino has stepped down as sole administrator and has been replaced by José Cesáreo Puerta Prado.

Congelados Llinares' catalogue includes more than 800 products, while the company reported revenue of €58.2 million and had around 172 employees, according to the latest available data. Its state-of-the-art logistics centres in Algeciras and Málaga also make the company a strategically valuable addition to Pescapuerta's distribution network.

For its part, the Vigo-based fishing company also has a presence in Mauritania, with two factory vessels; in Namibia, with four factory vessels, and in FAO Area 41. It also operates in Peru's aquaculture sector. In line with this strategy, back in 2009, Pescapuerta acquired Congelados Elmar to expand its logistics network into central and northern Spain.

This summer, Spain received a recognition medal from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for its commitment to implementing the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA).

This treaty represents the first legally binding international commitment specifically aimed at combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The award ceremony took place during the second edition of the International Course on Fisheries Law Enforcement, organised by the FAO and Spain to help strengthen training and cooperation in this field.
