The European Commission has announced it has approved a €155 million (approx. DKK 1.1 billion) scheme in a bid to support the Danish fish processing sector's green transition.

The initiative, a state aid scheme which will provide direct grants to the fisheries and aquaculture processing sector in Denmark, was approved under Europe's state aid rules for environmentally friendly energy sources.

The scheme is targeted at supporting large Danish fish processing companies to carry out projects to improve energy efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, through the transition towards eco-friendly energy sources, the European Commission said.

The scheme is due to run until 31 December 2029.
