The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) announced that Azure Seafood - a strategic sourcing partner to large food retailers and other purveyors of frozen and fresh seafood in North America - has joined its Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) program.
Located in North America, Azure Seafood is a seafood supplier which, according to its website, thanks to its partnership with top farmers, offers farm-direct sourcing that allows it to provide direct access to the freshest and most sustainable seafood products.
Committed to sustainable practices, it offers certified, all-natural, and antibiotic-free seafood, as well as eco-friendly packaging options that further support its environmental dedication. Now, in the GSA release, the company said it is proud to support and endorse BAP certification.
"We believe in promoting responsible aquaculture practices that ensure the highest quality standards for the seafood industry," stated Azure Seafood. "Partnering with BAP reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship, ethical sourcing, and to delivering superior products to our valued clients."
Powered by the Global Seafood Alliance, Best Aquaculture Practices is a seafood-specific certification program that addresses the four key areas of responsible seafood - these are: environmental, social, food safety, and animal health and welfare - at every step of the aquaculture production chain.
Joining this certification is verification that producers follow best practices to supply farmed seafood safely and responsibly throughout the entire aquaculture production chain, including processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills.
For his part, GSA's UK Market Development Manager, Mike Berthet, said they are pleased to welcome Azure Seafood to the community of BAP endorsers. "Their decision to align with BAP underscores their commitment to providing their customers with products that are produced in a safe and responsible manner," he added.
The Global Seafood Alliance - which has just added two new members to its Board of Directors - is an international, nonprofit trade association dedicated to advancing responsible seafood practices through education, advocacy, and third-party assurances.
From now on, Azure Seafood will join the more than 4,000 BAP-certified facilities listed by the GSA in its latest Annual Report.
