Icelandic land-based aquaculture company First Water has signed an agreement with fellow Icelandic software company Wisefish to implement its newly launched aquaculture solution.
Thanks to Wisefish's solution, First Water will be able to track costs, allocate resources across batches and groups, segment products from harvest to portioned items, and ensure traceability from grow-out through processing, sales, and delivery.
"First Water’s focus on growth, sales, and sustainable aquaculture aligns with the capabilities of our solution, and we look forward to helping them integrate the system into their operations," said Siggeir Örn Steinþórsson, Chief Commercial Officer of Wisefish.
Additionally, Ómar Grétarsson, Head of Sales & Marketing at First Water, noted: "As we scale our farming operations, it is crucial to have a system that makes our sales & logistics processes more efficient and gives us better insight into costs, margins, and workflows."
First Water is a pioneering land-based salmon farming project located on the south coast of Iceland, a site that allows for the unique sourcing of subterranean seawater. which has been naturally filtered through several millennia-old lava fields.
The company started harvesting and packing 5 kg of salmon for export to international markets. Also, it has been confirmed that the entire harvest has been sold to buyers in the United States and Europe.
Furthermore, the company secured in March EUR 39 million in fresh equity funding to support the continued development of its land-based salmon farming facility at Laxabraut in Þorlákshöfn.
