HAV Group designs new live fish carrier for North Salmon Service

The design is fundamentally based on meeting current standards in biosecurity, fish welfare, cost-efficiency, and environmental performance.
The delivery is scheduled for 2027, and its construction will be carried out by Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted.

The technology services provider for the maritime and marine industries, HAV Group, has been selected by the Norwegian aquaculture logistics operator North Salmon Service (NSS) to design a new live fish carrier.

The new vessel will feature a design based on the HAV 595, supporting a wide range of live fish operations, including transport and sorting. It will have a tank capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, exceeding current industry standards.

"Our HAV 595 enables more gentle and efficient handling and transport of salmon and sea trout. The hull is energy-efficient and onboard systems are designed to reduce overall energy use," assured HAV Design Vice President Sales Jan Magne Goksøyr.

Ready for 2027

The delivery is scheduled for 2027, and its construction will be carried out by Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted, a Norwegian shipyard specializing in the construction and repair of vessels, particularly in the maritime and aquaculture industries.

"We look forward to collaborating with Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted. While this is our first project together, they have made a strong impression and we are confident that they will deliver a high-quality vessel," noted Goksøyr.

It will be equipped with hybrid propulsion, including variable-speed generators, DC distribution, and a large battery. Moreover, HAV Design has confirmed that they have worked closely with NSS on the design to ensure it can also be adapted for other owners.

"In-depth operational knowledge is essential to designing vessels that not only meet but exceed customer expectations while reducing environmental impact. By combining operational insight with digital tools from HAV Ocean Lab, we can achieve just that," added HAV Design Senior Designer Kjetil Myren.
