New Chilean app to consult shellfish and crustacean fishing areas data

Thanks to this initiative, access to information on the management regime of the Areas of Management for the Exploitation of Benthic Resources (AMERB) is facilitated.

The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) in Chile, together with the Unit for Benthic Resources (URB), has designed a new mobile application to facilitate access to the Areas of Management for the Exploitation of Benthic Resources (AMERB).

The new app, named "BUSCAMERB," was developed as part of the Fisheries Monitoring Program under the Management Areas Agreement, ASIPA, and provides information about the AMERB, primarily focusing on administrative, geographic, and regulatory aspects.

"We hope it will be useful for artisanal fishermen, consulting firms, public institutions, and any other users interested in learning about this management regime," stated the specialized unit of Subpesca.

However, the URB has warned that procedures such as management actions, extensions, addendums, and expansions must be conducted through traditional means.

Through the AMERB regime, organizations of artisanal fishermen can apply for exclusive exploitation rights over benthic invertebrates and algae following supervision by Subpesca and Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca).
