ReelData Inc. has announced the launch of its latest product, ReelVision, a new specialised camera for aquaculture monitoring using AI.

The Canadian firm, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, develops artificial intelligence and computer vision software for aquaculture, providing real time metrics to fish farms.

Its latest product, ReelVision, described as "cost effective, everyday IP camera purpose built for AI applications in aquaculture", is engineered to support AI-driven tasks such as behavioral analysis, feeding rate monitoring, fish health assessment, and overall welfare, and is adaptable to any farming environment and AI model, the company said in a press release.

Until now, the company says, there has been "limited innovation in standard IP cameras in the aquaculture industry".

"We at ReelData have been building AI, Software and Hardware for the aquaculture industry for five years. Anyone with time in aquaculture has had the headaches of equipment failures, inconsistent products, and stuff simply not working. ReelData has also experienced these challenges. We found the cameras in the market unreliable and unacceptable, so we set out to build our own cameras that work," the company said.

Unlike standard industry cameras, ReelVision is designed to ensure "zero hardware failures and allows scalability without overwhelming farm infrastructure", making it an ideal choice for both advanced AI applications and as a standard IP camera, ReelData said.

"After using ReelVision for over a year now, it has shown a significant improved accuracy in pellet detection. Clients have noted its reliability with fewer operational disruptions and the reduced need for maintenance like rerunning cables or replacing hardware," the company said.
