In its quest for a more technological and efficient diving management, Salmones Camanchaca recently presented its new Diving Platform, with which, it stated, "the company takes an important step towards innovation." Using current resources and technologies - it integrates customized web and mobile applications - the platform will transform the underwater operations of its salmon farming sites with the aim of promoting greater safety and operational efficiency.
The technology provider DataQu, a leader in advanced predictive intelligence and Machine Learning innovation, has been the partner of Salmones Camanchaca in the development of this integrative web and mobile application initiative.
The new technological platform will allow the company to optimize its processes and data analysis, helping in timely decision-making, which will impact both the productivity and safety of subsea operations by recording dive data.
Salmones Camanchaca's Diving Platform will enable accurate monitoring of diving operations and minimize the risks associated with diving. According to the company, it seeks to reduce risk exposure through effective change management and the strengthening of a preventive culture.
In the release about its launch, the Chilean salmon producer also highlighted that this technological investment is aligned with one of Camanchaca's organizational values, safety, and aims to continue raising the Occupational Health and Safety standards of all personnel within its facilities.
Launched before representatives of diving companies in Puerto Varas, Los Lagos, Chile, Pablo Albistur, Salmones Camanchaca's Farming Manager explained that "this Diving Platform responds to a latent need in the aquaculture industry, which is to strengthen operational controls in underwater activities, thus aligning with our Diving Standard and reinforcing the safety of collaborators in each dive."
Albistur arrived at Salmones Camanchaca in 2021 to undertake the technological improvements the company needed. A year after his arrival in the position, he spoke with WeAreAquaculture, and already then highlighted how obtaining unique and accurate data could help not only improve production while making it more sustainable, but also its traceability.
But, above all, Salmones Camanchaca's Farming Manager was already emphasizing safety and how technology could help employees to have better working conditions at the workplace.
"We must always start our day talking about people," he said then, "about safety, about how comfortable they are, what they are lacking, before we start talking about production, about harvest, about fish mortality… before we talk about anything, we should always get into the habit of talking about people and always put them first."
Within the objective of achieving sustainable but also profitable production at all levels - environmentally, commercially, and socially - this Diving Platform joins other Camanchaca initiatives, such as the recent recertification of all its Divisions in Chile for energy efficiency, or the collaboration of the Salmon Division with the Estrella del Sur Fishermen's Union of Calbuco for the maintenance and control of closed (non-operational) salmon farming sites in Los Lagos and Aysén regions.
