Agronutris, a French biotech company specialising in breeding and processing insects into proteins for food and feed, has recently appointed an Norwegian aquaculture industry veteran to head up its aquaculture business segment: Geir Ivar Lanes.
Lanes has a long career in the aquaculture industry, with plenty of hands-on experience accumulated over the past 30 years, having worked in a variety of roles for both sea and land-based aquaculture, including on fish health, innovation and business development.
He was most recently Senior Market Development Manager for Dutch food and biochemicals company Corbion, specialising in aquaculture. Before this, he had his own aquaculture service company, Havbrukskontroll AS, which he ran for 25 years providing services to the Norwegian aquaculture industry.
He now joins French insect protein company Agronutris at a crucial time in its development. The biotech company inaugurated its first industrial-scale plant in October last year, having signed its first commercial contracts in April 2023 with leading aquaculture feed company Biomar.
Agronutris is also planning to build a second plant next to its existing 16,000m2 facility in Rethel, Ardennes, France, which it says will become "one of the world’s largest industrial sites dedicated to insects", creating 200 jobs in the region over the next few years.
"We are thrilled to welcome Geir Ivar Lanes as our new Aquaculture business director to strengthen our sales teams," Agronutris said in a LinkedIn announcement.
"Geir Ivar brings with him 30 years’ experience and knowledge of the aquaculture industry. He will be responsible for overseeing our relationships with our aquaculture partners," the company added.
