Norwegian aquaculture technology supplier AKVA group has appointed Rodrigo Torrijo Olmos to lead its Land Based business in Latin America, the company has announced.

Torrijo joins the company following a long career in the Chilean aquaculture sector, including around a decade as general manager of Hendrix Genetics Chile.

According to AKVA group, he brings more than 30 years of aquaculture industry experience to the position, alongside a background in leadership and business development.

The company said the appointment is intended to strengthen the commercial development of its land-based activities in Latin America and its work with fish farmers adopting land-based production technologies.

"His deep understanding of the industry, combined with extensive experience in leadership and business development, will strengthen our ability to support producers in the challenges and opportunities presented by land-based production," the company stated in a LinkedIn post announcing the appointment.

AKVA group supplies technology and services for both sea-based and land-based aquaculture. Its land-based portfolio includes recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) and reuse systems, as well as complete farm design and turnkey projects.

Torrijo said he sees opportunities to expand this part of the company's business in the region.

"From day one, I was welcomed in a very professional way. You can tell that people enjoy what they do and that there is an extremely committed and capable team here. I see many opportunities ahead and a company that is very well positioned to seize them. AKVA group has built important success stories across different business areas, and I am excited to contribute to replicating that same development in Land Based," he said.

AKVA group has an established presence in Chile, including a Land Based operation for the Americas in Puerto Montt.

In April, the Rogaland, Norway-headquartered technology group announced it was launching a strategic review, due for completion in the autumn of 2026, that could lead to a sale of the company.
