"Agreement has been made with directors for Finance, Jónas Heiðar Birgisson, and Biology, Rolf Ørjan Nordli, to step down from their positions as a part of organizational reorganization." With these words, Arnarlax - Iceland's leading salmon farming company and a subsidiary of Icelandic Salmon, in turn owned by Norway's SalMar - announced the departure of both executives from the company.

"We want to thank Jónas and Rolf Ørjan for their contribution in the phase of building up the company and wish them all the best for the future," the Icelandic salmon company added.

Birgisson had joined the company in 2017 as a Finance Specialist and had worked his way up through the ranks to become Chief Financial Officer, a position he has held for just over five and a half years. "Every good ride eventually comes to an end," he wrote after the announcement on his LinkedIn profile.

"After 8.5 incredibly rewarding years, my journey with Team Arnarlax and Icelandic Salmon has come to a close. It's been a true privilege to be part of building and growing a company from the Westfjords—one that's grounded in dedication, resilience, and purpose," he added.

"I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a passionate and capable team. Together, we've shaped something meaningful in a remote corner of Iceland," he continued. "A new chapter begins for both the company and myself. Time for a new ride—and a new adventure," the outgoing CFO concluded.

Nordli, for his part, had joined Anarlax in August 2018 and, since then, has held the position of Chief Operating Officer Biology, which he is now leaving. Unlike his colleague, the COO Biology - who, before he arrived at the Icelandic company, worked at his Norwegian owner, SalMar - has not commented on LinkedIn.

In its release, Arnarlax also announced that the replacement for the CFO position will be Edvin Aspli, who joined the company in January this year and, in recent months, has served as Chief Strategic Officer. He has previous experience of three years in the aquaculture team of Kverva AS.

Aspli will assume the position on an interim basis, pending the appointment of a permanent Chief Financial Officer. The company said the search process for the new CFO will begin immediately.

The replacement for the position of Chief Operations Manager Biology, meanwhile, will be Johnny Indergård, who, for the past four years, has held the position of Freshwater Manager within the Icelandic company. Prior to that, Indergård worked as Assistant Operations Manager at Mowi for just over four and a half years.

The "organizational reorganization" comes a week after the release of Arnarlax's parent company, Icelandic Salmon's Q1 2025 earnings report. Contrary to the previous quarter (Q4 2024), when its CEO said the company was "on the right path," Q1 2025 results were marked by mortality-related costs, low harvest volumes, and a weaker market due to increased global supply and lower prices.
