Shortly before Christmas, DNV's company specializing in knowledge-based ocean health, Åkerblå AS, announced that it would be strengthening its focus on fish health with a new professional lead. Thus, as of January 1, Ingebjørg Sævareid, former Global Fish Health Manager at Grieg Seafood, has become its new Head of Fish Health.
"We are proud to welcome Ingebjørg O. Sævareid as our new Head of Fish Health. With more than 15 years of experience from leading roles in the aquaculture sector, she brings strong professional expertise and strategic insight to an area that is crucial for sustainable growth," the company said on a LinkedIn post announcing the appointment.
For her part, the former Grieg Seafood Global Fish Health Manager also used LinkedIn to announce this new chapter in her career and say goodbye to her former position and colleagues.
"My time at Grieg Seafood has been demanding, educational, and developmental. My driving force has always been the desire to improve conditions for the fish, and I have had the privilege of working alongside many skilled and dedicated people who share the same goal," wrote Ingebjørg Sævareid, expressing her gratitude for the great collaborations, important discussions, and trust placed in her.
"Some career choices are not about moving on, but about going deeper," had previously said Åkerblå's new Head of Fish Health, who is changing companies but will hold a position similar to her previous one.
"From 2026, I will be working as Head of Professional Discipline – Fish Health at Åkerblå AS, a DNV company. I look forward to getting to know new colleagues, partners, and customers," she also wrote.
"The aquaculture industry is facing major changes—both regulatory and structural. Åkerblå aims to be part of this journey and to support the industry in developing solutions that improve fish welfare, the environment, and profitability. It feels both meaningful and exciting to be able to contribute to this," Sævareid added.
The appointment of Ingebjørg Sævareid thus further advances the objective that the assurance and risk management company DNV already had when, in June 2023, it signed an agreement to acquire Åkerblå Group, and which, months later, would also lead it to take ownership of the UK-based consulting firm Ocean Ecology.
"Aquaculture is the fastest growing sector in food production and will play a decisive role in meeting the growing global demand for protein. DNV already offers several services to the aquaculture industry, mainly related to infrastructure, supply chains, management system certification, and digitalization. Combining these activities with Åkerblå Group's world-leading fish health and biodiversity expertise, we create an aquaculture powerhouse capable of supporting businesses at all levels," then said Geir Fuglerud, CEO of Supply Chain & Product Assurance at DNV.
