Cooke Aquaculture Inc. has announced that Gifford Cooke, the co-founder of the Canadian seafood giant, passed away on the 3rd of March. The Cooke family has expressed their sadness and gratitude through a statement.

"On behalf of the Cooke family and our employees, I would like to express our gratitude for the immense contributions Gifford has made to rural coastal communities in Eastern Charlotte, New Brunswick, and throughout Atlantic Canada and the globe," Joel Richardson, Vice President of Public Relations said.

Gifford, who started as a marine mechanic in Blacks Harbour, helped with the modernization of the company's freshwater salmon hatcheries and vessel fleet and made possible the realization of numerous projects.

"Over the decades, Gifford and his children, Glenn, Michael, and Debbie built a local family company into a global seafood leader with fully integrated facilities, product lines, and distribution networks. Cooke provides careers to nearly 13,000 employees in 15 countries and is passionate about supporting community and conservation projects," Richardson added.

Cooke Aquaculture Inc. has operated a sustainable aquaculture business in Atlantic Canada for over 35 years. It operates fourteen sea sites in Nova Scotia and an administration office and maintenance facility in the Bridgewater area. Also, it owns Northeast Nutrition Inc. and AC Covert.
