Land-based fish farm developer Great Northern Salmon (GNS) has appointed Kevin Kelsey to lead its early life-stage operations as part of the senior production management team at the U.S. company.

Previously, Kelsey managed the hatcheries of Vermont Fish & Wildlife since the late 1990s. In addition, he was involved in the early days of the salmon industry in Maine. He has extensive knowledge of egg incubation and fish farming, confirms GNS.

Regarding this appointment, CEO Marianne Naess expressed: 'Great Northern looks forward to welcoming both of you to the town this summer.

A period marked by strategic partnerships

In April 2025, Great Northern Salmon announced it had signed an agreement with Norwegian technology provider Eyvi to collaborate on the development of US salmon and trout.

While Eyvi will supply the recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) for GNS's proposed salmon farm in Millinocket, northern Maine, GNS will benefit from a significant strategic investment from Eyvi.

One year earlier, Katahdin Salmon obtained all the critical permits the company had applied for to become Great Northern Salmon. GNS brand represents the company's vision: producing high-quality salmon in areas with access to plenty of clean and cold water in the Northern USA.

All of this is proof that the fish farmer has extensive experience in development and permitting processes in the U.S. and already has a management team with local knowledge that is 'hard to find.
