At the beginning of September, Lenaïg Richard-Breivik announced that she had started a new position as Business Development Manager at the Dutch food and biochemicals company Corbion.

"I am thrilled to share that I have joined Corbion and its innovative team to expand algae application into aquaculture nutrition," she wrote on her LinkedIn profile.

Lenaïg Richard-Breivik comes to Corbion after a short six-month professional break in which, also in her words on LinkedIn, she has been using her "creativity and passion" to design a children's book, while exploring new horizons within aquaculture and seafood.

Previously, she spent almost 13 years at Skretting where she started as Lead Researcher and then held the positions of Global Product Group Manager, Global Marketing Manager, and, most recently, Business Development Manager.

In that time, among many others, she has participated in the Next Tuna project, a startup with which the aquaculture feed company joined forces - with Skretting Italy formulating, manufacturing, and supplying the feed - to advance the production of juvenile Atlantic bluefin tuna through its plug-and-play modular floating RAS system sized to fit the tuna.

As she said, Richard-Breivik now comes to Corbion to expand algae application into aquaculture nutrition. The company is committed to algae as a reliable and sustainable source of Omega-3, thus addressing one of the main challenges facing salmon farmers today.

The Dutch company is, for example, the developer of AlgaPrime™ DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid), an ingredient obtained from the microalgae (Schizochytrium sp.) developed by Corbion in collaboration with BioMar, and also the base ingredient of a study published by the Danish aquafeed company last year, demonstrating that full replacement of fish oil with algal oil in salmon feed is possible.
