Created to offer a high-quality supply of Atlantic salmon eggs from an American strain sourced from USDA as a strategic genetics partner, SalmoGen is a collaborative American broodstock undertaking between investors, strategic partners, academia, and government resources. Founded in late 2022, it was officially launched in March 2024 and it now announces the appointment of Nick King as its new General Manager.

According to the company's announcement, he comes with a strong technical and management background from well-known companies in the aquaculture industry such as Skretting, Benchmark, and, in recent years, Nordic Aquafarms. SalmoGen also highlights that Nick King's broad experience encompasses hatchery training, fish nutrition, farm permitting, and fish health.

In his new position, he will oversee day-to-day operations and development activities. The company says he is a welcome addition as SalmoGen is increasing its focus on broodstock development, production-related matters, and expansion of operations.

The design phase of the company's facility is coming to an end this summer and it will soon move forward with construction and expansion of operations. The company’s broodstock cohorts are currently held in leased facilities at the University of Maine where, in partnership with the USDA, it is developing the St. Johns Maine Strain.

As said above, SalmoGen is the result of a coalition of industry players, academic resources, and well-known investors, and that is precisely what the new General Manager of the company has highlighted in his statements upon his arrival to the position.

"SalmoGen brings together an incredible supporting cast of collaborators. I plan to continue the path established by the board so that SalmoGen may reach its full potential in the coming years," said Nick King.

On a more personal note, when sharing the news of his appointment on his LinkedIn profile, SalmoGen's new General Manager praised the people he has met and the professional relationships he has established throughout his career, which, he says, have helped him to get to this point. "This is a time to be excited for the future," he concluded.
