We have known his name since Nutreco announced on April 8 that Skretting's CEO was stepping down. The statement said Therese Log Bergjord had taken the personal decision to resign this summer, and Bastiaan van Tilburg will replace her as head of its aquaculture feed subsidiary. Ten days later, we learn Skretting's next CEO gets on with it to be ready to take up his new position on June 1.

"In the months that follow, I will travel a lot to connect with and listen to our Skretting colleagues, get to know our customers, to hear all about our challenges and opportunities, and to thoroughly deep dive into the aqua industry," van Tilburg has explained. "Thanks in advance for your support, patience and openness during this onboarding process," he has added.

Bastiaan van Tilburg, who studied at the University of Groningen and holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts in International Organisation and International Relations, joined Nutreco in January 2019. His first position at the world's leading animal nutrition and aquafeed company was as Managing Director for Benelux, Scandinavia, and France of its livestock feed business line, Trouw Nutrition. Subsequently, in November 2022, he started his current position as Managing Director for Trouw Nutrition Europe and Central Asia.

This opportunity is a new internal promotion for him who, before joining Nutreco, had already worked in Brazil in various commercial and operational leadership roles at Makro, another company that is part of the global family business SHV, like Nutreco. Before that, he worked at Royal Dutch Shell for four years.

As mentioned above, when he starts his new position at the helm of Skretting next June, van Tilburg will take over from Therese Log Bergjord. He recently confessed that, for him, it is an immense honor and a great pleasure to follow in her footsteps, not only because "she leaves the company in a very solid state and with a bright future ahead" but because of the team she has built during her seven years in office.

"Therese’s genuine interest in people and her positive leadership style have always stood out to me and it’s clear that she has built a very strong and closely connected team, and a culture of collaboration," he said then. "I very much look forward to becoming part of this great Skretting team!" he has added now.

"Building on Skretting’s strong team spirit and culture, our world class innovations and our great reputation, I am sure we will have a successful and fun time together," he concluded. In addition to being the new CEO of Skretting, Bastiaan van Tilburg will also join the Nutreco Management Board.
