The Chilean public agency, the Los Lagos Regional Directorate of CORFO, has launched the Integrated Territorial Program (PTI) Los Lagos Circular, which involves a total investment of $120 million to promote the circular economy in salmon farming and other sectors.
This initiative will implement a management model aimed at strengthening capacities, fostering the productive ecosystem, and promoting sustainable value chains across the 24 municipalities of the Los Lagos Region.
"This program will have a positive impact on all productive sectors of the Los Lagos Region and will benefit more than 73 companies across the region’s 24 municipalities, including Chiloé," said Francisco Cárcamo, President of the Development Commission of the Regional Council.
In addition, the Acting Regional Director of CORFO Los Lagos, David Espinoza, stated: "With the PTI Los Lagos Circular, we are driving a concrete transformation in the region's strategic sectors, promoting waste reduction, resource efficiency, and new sustainable business models."
The presentation was also attended by Jaime Velásquez, Technical Executive in charge of the PTI Los Lagos Circular; Juan Carlos Silva, Subcommittee Coordinator; Luis Cortés, CORFO Technical Executive; and Secretary Cristopher Igor.
In 2025, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, unveiled the Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (LACE) Project, which aims to strengthen the country's food security strategy.
The project includes a hatchery with a capacity of 50 million fish fingerlings, a 24,000-tonne feed mill, and a 20,000-tonne fish processing plant — the first of its kind in Lagos and in the country.
