Peru's Ministry of Production has introduced new initiatives to promote the circular economy, decarbonization, and ozone layer protection in the country through the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
In this context, Minister of Production César Quispe Luján inaugurated the II Produce Circular Summit: Towards Decarbonization, where the approval of the Implementation Plan for the Roadmap for Fisheries and Aquaculture to 2030 was also announced.
"This instrument will allow us to translate policies into tangible solutions to optimize the use of biological resources and strengthen the resilience of our fisheries sector," Quispe stated.
Also, the Ministry has developed the Produce Circular project to support companies throughout the process, from capacity building and the implementation of solutions to access to financing and the opening of new markets.
Specifically, these business agents have generated USD 4.8 million in new commercial opportunities, while the MYPE Sostenible and MYPE Global programs have provided more than 3,800 services.
Furthermore, 2,500 companies have joined the initiative, and more than USD 14.4 million in non-reimbursable funds have been mobilized to finance over 200 circular economy and climate action projects.
Finally, Produce confirmed that Peru will participate, together with Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay, in an initiative in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and funded by the European Union, which will allocate more than USD 267,000 to promote more efficient refrigeration technologies in the fisheries sector.
