Philippines Senator Cynthia Villar, who is also the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food and Senate Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises, is promoting the creation of an aquaculture feed mill plant in the province of Capiz to improve the conditions of local fishermen.
According to the Philippine News Agency, this project, which aims to reduce production costs and improve the livelihoods of local fish farmers, has gained strong legislative support. The plant will be built in Barangay Bahit, Capiz, and will be overseen by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of the Department of Agriculture.
Government funds will be allocated for the construction and operation of the plant, as well as for research and development efforts aimed at improving local feed production technologies tailored to the needs of Filipino fishermen.
In addition, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will conduct a comprehensive feasibility study to assess the project's viability and identify the most sustainable implementation model.
Finally, after a training period conducted by BFAR for the local government unit (LGU) of Capiz province on the proper use of the facility, it will be handed over to the LGU for full operation and management.
