The Spanish government announces grants for financing transformative projects in the fishing and aquaculture sector that involve an investment of more than 1.5 million euros.

This call for 2024 proposals will allow the financing of investment projects up to 50%, with a maximum of five million euros. Additionally, the projects must be completed by June 30, 2026.

The grants, aimed at promoting the modernization and digitalization of the sector, its competitiveness, and its sustainable economic growth, are funded by the European Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR).

The projects that will receive the most attention are those related to energy efficiency, circular economy, new products, packaging improvements, traceability systems, efficient water use, and all aspects related to safety, hygiene, health, and working conditions.

With this initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) and the Ministry of Industry and Tourism are responding to the sector's request for inclusion in the Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for the Agri-food sector.

The State-owned Agricultural Guarantee Company (SAECA)

Additionally, the Council of Ministers has authorized the extension of the ministry's loan to the State-owned Agricultural Guarantee Company (SAECA) by 25 million euros.

Therefore, a financing line of approximately 625 million euros is enabled, in which SAECA will assume 80% of the guarantee coverage.

The potential beneficiaries will be actors in the agri-food and beverage industries, agri-food cooperatives, operators in the fishing sector, fishing associations, irrigation communities, and other associative entities.

These benefits will have a minimum amount of 75,000 euros and up to 2,500,000 euros, except for young people, who will not have a minimum amount.

Furthermore, Spain will implement an aid line of 40 million euros for the modernization of the fishing and aquaculture processing sector. The European Commission communicated in April that its implementation is compatible with the internal market of the European Union (EU).
