The funded measures may be implemented between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2027.

At the request of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Government of Spain will allocate a package of measures to boost the competitiveness, sustainability, and modernization of the Canary Islands' primary sector, with a total investment of €23.1 million.
The package includes €17.9 million in direct grants to provide liquidity to the sector, along with €5.2 million in strategic investments in water infrastructure and training. The Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands will be responsible for implementing the Primary Sector Support Plan.
Key measures include the modernization of the infrastructure of fishermen's associations (cofradías de pescadores) and the promotion of investments in the processing and marketing of fisheries and aquaculture products.
The plan also includes the modernization of the Canary Islands' maritime and fisheries schools, strengthening specialized training and supporting generational renewal in a sector that is strategic to the archipelago's economy and territorial cohesion.
Overall, the initiative aims to address the challenges posed by the territory's insular nature, territorial fragmentation, rising production costs, pressure on water resources, and the impacts of climate instability.
According to the Ministry, the ultimate goal is to support productive activity, ensure food security, and help sustain employment and population levels in the rural and coastal areas of the Canary Islands.
