Finnish Kalatukku E. Eriksson, owned by Kesko, has signed a letter of intent agreement with REOCEAN to purchase a significant portion of the expected production of salmon from the first large-scale and highly innovative salmon farming venture in Sweden. This planned facility, located in Säffle, is estimated to produce 10,000 tonnes of salmon per year, starting from 2026.
Morten Malle, CEO of RE:OCEAN, notes the confidence the world and neighboring countries have in the Swedish innovation power and investment in sustainable, good, and healthy salmon. By utilizing the water from Lake Vänern and combining break-through technology with local traditions of salmon refinement, RE:OCEAN is poised to revolutionize the way the world consumes Atlantic-farmed salmon.
With a focus on sustainability, the state-of-the-art technology at the facility will recycle all water, reducing its climate footprint. The construction of the facility is set to begin in the fall of 2023, with completion estimated to take one year. From there, it will take approximately two years for the fry to grow into full-size salmon.
RE:OCEAN has already signed agreements of intent with several future customers, including Axfood, Coop, and ICA in Sweden. Mikko Poikolainen, CEO of Kalatukku E. Eriksson, sees this as an opportunity to provide Finnish consumers and Horeca customers with first-class, sustainable, land-farmed Atlantic salmon.
RE:OCEAN (previously known as Premium Svensk Lax) is a Swedish company working to revolutionize the fishing industry with a large-scale, land-based salmon farm in Säffle. Using their innovative "ocean-on-land" farming technique, RE:OCEAN aims to produce 10,000 tonnes of sustainable and healthy salmon annually, helping to improve the health of both people and the planet.
