The 29th edition of Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global starts in a few days and offers a full conference program covering the main challenges and opportunities for the industry.

The event, which will be held April 25-27 at Fira de Barcelona's Gran Via venue, will offer more than 20 educational sessions during the three-day Expo. Among the topics to be covered are both practical and theoretical issues, working on topics such as leadership in the seafood industry, market development for fish and aquaculture, sustainability, and sustainable fishing, among others.

Program speakers will include more than 85 leading international experts in the seafood sector. From policy makers to entrepreneurs, NGO representatives, and experts in biodiversity and sustainability.

In detail 25 April

The expo will kick off with the session "Building future seafood consumers," in which speakers from SalmonChile, the International Coalition of Fisheries Associations (IFCA) of Spain, and COMEPESCA of Mexico will share their knowledge. Success stories and case studies on tools and strategies used to increase seafood consumption in different countries will be presented.

Furthermore, another of the conferences scheduled for that day will be "Planning around uncertainty: business strategies for strange economic times". In this roundtable discussion, Cliff White, Executive Editor of SeafoodSource.com, will lead a discussion with four seafood CEOs from Trident Seafoods, Bakkafrost, Aquaculture Stewardship Council, and Sea Harvest Group Limited. The goal of this roundtable is to give attendees a first-hand look at how these leaders managed their companies during the pandemic and where they plan to go for future success.

What you can't miss on 26 April

The keynote address will be held by Megan Greene, a global economist, Financial Times columnist, and Senior Fellow at Brown University Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. In her session "Navigating the Global Polycrisis," Greene will examine the current economic outlook. He will take a closer look at how fiscal and monetary authorities can navigate the situation without triggering a global recession and discuss what the global economy will look like once it stabilizes.

Àngels Segura, Head of the Seafood Sector at AECOC, is another of the leading names. She leads the conference called "International Retail Trends in Seafood" which aims to present the results of an exhaustive international benchmarking report. It will share the most innovative solutions in product, packaging, communication, and best practices in the sales of seafood products.

On the other hand, on the same day, there will be another debate by Mariana Toussaint from FAO's Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, and Lamia Znagui, Director of the Moroccan Federation of Processing Industries and Valorization of Seafood Products (FENIP). In this debate, they will discuss the main challenges for fishery and aquaculture products, such as climate change, in their session "Towards sustainable fisheries: Climate change, and the implementation of the WTO Agreement on fisheries subsidies". This is due to the underlying threats of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, which make sustainability a crucial factor.

Last but no least 27 April

On the last day, four conferences will be conducted about different topics. Two of them will be about the world outlook and the global challenge facing the world. The first one will be about the importance of global harmonization "Import Control Schemes: Importance of Benefits of Global Harmonization". A second will discuss the global logistics forecast, under the title "Global Logistics Outlook."

However, they will not be the only ones; there will also be another two. One about how aquaculture can help the overpopulation challenge, entitled "Farming in water: Strategies to Ensure Social Acceptance and Meet Demand for High-Quality Food Through Sustainable Aquaculture". Lastly, there will also be time to discuss Blue Transformation, with the conference "How Can Marine Ingredients Support the Growth of Aquaculture Sector in a World of Greater Food Sovereignty?"
