A few months ago, the Arab-Mauritanian Fish Company, SAMAK, inaugurated the Industrial Complex for the Processing and Value Addition of Pelagic Fish, which represents one of the largest industrial ventures in the fisheries sector in both Mauritania and North Africa.
The complex is equipped with advanced technologies and specializes in the processing, freezing, and export of small pelagic fish, including mackerel, sardines, and Atlantic chub mackerel. One of its main objectives is to enhance Mauritania's fish exports.
This will be made possible by the facility's capacity, which spans 15,000 square meters, with an annual production of 100,000 tons of fish and fish products, and a storage capacity of 10,000 tons.
The total investment amounted to USD 28 million, and the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) holds a 40.54% stake in this project, alongside the Imam Walad Ibno Group (37.10%). The project has also been developed in partnership with several Mauritanian investors and institutions.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Port Industrial Zone in Nouadhibou and was attended by His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and His Excellency Dr. Obaid Saif Hamad Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Board of AAAID.
"Our investment in the SAMAK project reflects our commitment to strengthening Arab food security and advancing sustainable development in Arab countries," said H.E. Dr. Obaid Saif Hamad Al Zaabi.
Additionally, he expressed his gratitude to H.E. President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani for his "gracious patronage" of the project and his "continued support" for economic development and for promoting investment in the agricultural and fisheries sectors in the country.
