Bangalore, India-based insect biotech company Loopworm has announced it has secured Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) approval, allowing its insect-derived products to be used directly as additives, attractants, and palatants in aquaculture feed and health supplements.
The company said it has also begun exporting "multiple commercial consignments" of its insect protein powder to one of the world’s largest salmon feed producers.
“This achievement reinforces our vision to create an impact in protein production through sustainable insect biotechnology,” said Ankit Alok Bagaria, Co-founder and CEO of Loopworm, via a press release.
"These certifications position Loopworm as a credible supplier, aligning with global pet food safety and animal feed standards. Whether it’s about dealing with pet food companies or animal feed manufacturers, these certifications highlight brand commitment in delivering safe, high-quality, and sustainable products."
Loopworm confirmed it is now certified according to ISO 22000, HACCP, CAA and EU TRACES standards. In its announcement, the company said that over the past year it has built a global distribution network, shipping products to the US, Europe, South East Asia, Japan, South Korea, and South America.
"With this regulatory milestone, Loopworm will cater to both feed manufacturers and the broader aquaculture supplement ecosystem, expanding its addressable market in India's growing aquaculture sector," the company stated.
The company previously announced it had raised USD 3.25 million in a Pre-Series A round led by WaterBridge Ventures and Enrission India Capital in support of its ongoing commercialisation and research into sustainable protein solutions.
