Seagriculture EU 2026, one of Europe’s leading conferences dedicated to the seaweed industry, returns for its 15th edition, with this year's event taking place from 16–18 June 2026 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The conference will see more than 200 participants from over 30 countries gather in the Swedish city for three days of knowledge exchange, networking, and strategic industry insights. Participants are encouraged to register before 15 May 2026 to benefit from discounted Early Bird rates.
The 2026 edition centres on the theme “The European seaweed industry in transition: survival, scale and real impact,” with a key highlight of an exclusive site visit to Nordic SeaFarm on 16 June, offering attendees a behind-the-scenes look at large-scale seaweed cultivation.
“We are delighted to welcome everyone to Sweden and Gothenburg,” said Christer Olausson, CEO of Nordic SeaFarm. “We hope the site visit will provide valuable insights, and that the conference as a whole will be a truly memorable experience.”
The conference will open with welcome remarks from Kuno Jacobs (Managing Director, DLG Markets Benelux), Margareta A. Broang (Deputy Lord Mayor of Gothenburg), and Renée Bengtsson (President of Region Västra Götaland), followed by an opening address from Christer Olausson.
A strong lineup of keynote speakers will address critical developments in the seaweed sector. On the first day, Robert Carleke, of the Inter IKEA Group, is to talk about IKEA's interest in seaweed, engagement with start-up companies and views on how to scale up the seaweed industry.
Subsequent keynotes include Adrien Vincent, Albatros Advisory, Pi Nyvall, Head of Scientific Affairs at French biostimulant producer Olmix, ocean restoration and blue carbon expert Brian Tsuyoshi Takeda (Restorae / Japan Blue Economy Association) and Xu Ben Zhang, Managing Director of the Kelp Forest Foundation.
These presentations will explore innovation, financing, long-term research, and the emergence of blue carbon credit systems.
The broader program will highlight the industry’s path to scale, covering innovation, investment, best practices, and the role of seaweed in climate and biodiversity solutions. Contributors include representatives from Chalmers University of Technology, World Wildlife Fund, Tetra Pak, Planet Ocean Capital, ALGAIA, and Ocean Rainforest, among others.

The exclusive site visit to Nordic SeaFarm will offer participants a full-day program, including a boat tour to the company’s cultivation site in the Grebbestad archipelago, a visit to its hatchery and processing facilities in Strömstad, and a stop at Tjärnö Marine Laboratory for insights into current seaweed research from the University of Gothenburg’s Department of Marine Sciences.
Founded in 2016, Nordic SeaFarm has been a pioneer in making European seaweed accessible to industry at scale, with research, innovation and sustainable production methods at the core of its work.
Beyond the conference sessions, Seagriculture EU 2026 will offer extensive networking opportunities. The trade show is nearly fully booked, and over 35 poster presentations have already been confirmed. Another highlight on the conference agenda is the conference dinner at Feskekörka, Gothenburg’s iconic “Fish Church,” showcasing the region’s maritime heritage and seafood cuisine.
Participants are encouraged to register early, as the Early Bird rate expires on 15 May 2026, after which prices will increase.
