The new category, sponsored by Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), aims to recognize the exceptional achievements of seafood exporters, with four family firms shortlisted for the accolade in 2024.
The investment will benefit all six state-owned Fishery Harbour Centres, in Killybegs, Ros an Mhíl, An Daingean, Castletownbere, Dunmore East, and Howth.
A delegation organised by Ireland's seafood development agency BIM visited Finnish company SuperGround to explore new technologies for upcycling sidestreams into food products.
"Ireland owns 12% of EU waters, but gets just 5.6% of fishing quotas," according to the #Fight4Fishing campaign, which launched at a public meeting in Killybegs last week.
