The Ministry of Production visits and supports associations to promote sustainable, environmentally-friendly fishing practices aligned with market demands.
In addition to the internal measures the country has been deploying, in June 2025, it has also joined the OECD recommendation to combat illegal fishing and the BBNJ Agreement.
The project, led by the University of Vigo in Galicia, uses proteins derived from filamentous fungi fermented with industrial macroalgae waste to produce proteins.
