Salmon Evolution's Phase 2 now in operation

The land-based salmon farmer confirmed the first smolt release, and said increased production during 2026 would "unlock new commercial opportunities in both retail and food service markets."

Norwegian land-based aquaculture firm Salmon Evolution has this morning confirmed Phase 2 of its hybrid flow-through facility is now in operation, with the the first smolt having been released.

The company reports that the smolt have "adapted well" and have begun feeding, with "operational parameters stable and in line with expectations."

Salmon Evolution plans to release around 2.8 million smolt at Indre Harøy in Northern Norway during 2026, which the company said represents an increase of approximately 60% compared with 2025.

"When completed phase 2 will more than double capacity at Indre Harøy, being a real game-changer for Salmon Evolution" said CEO Trond Håkon Schaug-Pettersen via a stock exchange announcement.

"Phase 2 builds on four years of operational experience from phase 1, and combined phases 1 and 2 provides scale and represents an unmatched operational platform in sustainable, land-based salmon farming, unlocking strong expected cash flow generation and a full transformation of Salmon Evolutions earnings capacity," he said.

“This is a moment we are genuinely proud of,” the CEO said in a separate update. “Releasing the first smolt into Phase 2 is the result of long-term planning, disciplined execution, and a tremendous team effort across our organization and partners.”

The company said that the planned increase in production volumes combined with "more consistent" harvest frequency will give Salmon Evolution new commercial opportunities in both retail and foodservice markets.

"A more predictable supply rhythm will enable closer customer partnerships and greater flexibility in meeting market demand," the company said.
