The Chilean Salmon Industry Association, SalmonChile, has concluded the fourth edition of its Salmon Mentorship Network program, aimed at supporting small business ventures in the salmon farming sector across La Araucanía, Los Lagos, Aysén, and Magallanes.
Over five months, the 20 selected entrepreneurs gained strategic insights into the value chain, participated in collaborative networks, attended theoretical and practical workshops, and took part in a final 'Pitch Day & Networking' event to showcase their projects.
"Creating these connections between entrepreneurs and key players in the production sector not only boosts business growth but also strengthens ties with communities in southern Chile. This network represents a real opportunity to move forward together toward a better future," assured Marcela Bravo, Manager of Studies and Projects at SalmonChile.
In 2024, SalmonChile organized the first edition of 'Salmon Summit 2024: Powering Chilean salmon farming to 2050'. More than 1,200 people, including industry leaders, politicians, academics, economists, and civil society representatives, discussed the challenges and opportunities of salmon farming in the country.
SalmonChile's program emphasized key areas such as marketing, finance, leadership, and business strategy, with support from 21 mentors from the sector. It also featured representatives from the company's partner firms, who participated in business roundtables with all the participants.
Regarding this, Álvaro Muñoz Camaño from Tiburov Submarine Robotics detailed: "In the mentorship, I found that we were given many tools that may seem basic but are highly relevant. For example, creating a roadmap for everything you want to achieve over a specific period is, in my view, one of the most essential steps for building a successful venture."
Additionally, mentor and Supply Chain Deputy Manager at Cooke Aquaculture, Alexis Figueroa, commented: "It’s a highly enriching experience because it allows you to build bridges with entrepreneurs, to understand the challenges they face, and also to help solve some, whether simple or a bit more complex. Ultimately, it improves our relationship with our business partners, with whom we want to grow through the network."
