Veramaris sets science-based target to further reduce carbon footprint by 2030

Veramaris has set a science-based target, approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi), to reduce its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Thereby, the EPA & DHA Omega 3 producer will achieve a 38% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030 from a 2021 base year.

In addition, Veramaris will report progress against the Science Based Targets to measuring and reducing Scope 3 emissions. According to the company, this will permit additional transparency in their supply chains.

Moreover, Karim Kurmaly, CEO of Veramaris explained: "Aligning our Greenhouse Gas reduction goals with Science Based Targets is an important step we are taking to protect the future of our planet. At Veramaris, even though we are in the early stages of scaling up our production, we understand the importance and urgency of climate change. So, we are doing our bit to help the food system grow within planetary boundaries."

To sum up, the SBTi encourages the private sector to start promoting a zero-carbon economy. So, it enables companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets. For example, Veramaris' initiative allows the transition to a low-carbon economy. While conserving marine biodiversity and therewith helping protect the health of our oceans.
