Ace Aquatec makes a splash in Japan with a bespoke trout stunner.
Ace Aquatec
Aquaculture technology company Ace Aquatec has completed the installation of its bespoke humane stunning device with the help of Japanese trout producer, FRD Japan.
Ace Aquatec and FRD Japan have created a bespoke system that supports the safe and seamless transfer of fish between the grow-out and processing facilities.
The process has been made possible thanks to FRD Japan's A-HSU® technology, a land-based closed recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). In this way, biosecurity protocols are met and the welfare of the fish is protected.
Regarding this partnership, Tara McGregor-Woodhams, CSMO at Ace Aquatec, said: "Developing a device that balances biosecurity and operational efficiency with the highest welfare standards has been a rewarding challenge, and we’re excited to see our technology making a positive impact in aquaculture in Asia and around the world."
Additionally, Tez Sogo, at FRD Japan, indicated: "Working with Ace Aquatec has been a seamless and productive experience. The team has shown high levels of expertise and adaptability, collaborating with us at every stage to design a solution that suits our needs. The result is a device that aligns with our goals while upholding our high biosecurity standards."
Ace Aquatec's A-HSU®, which will be fully operational in 2027, works for all commercial fish species including trout, salmon, tilapia, prawn, bass, and bream.
Ace Aquatec has already signed major agreements to integrate its systems into salmon and trout farms in other countries such as Spain and New Zealand.
First, it partnered with Spanish trout farmer Piszolla to install the company's first stunning system at its Alba de Tormes facility in the province of Salamanca, paving the way for humane slaughter in Spain.
A few months later, New Zealand-based king salmon producer Mount Cook Alpine Salmon reported good results in fish production thanks to the introduction of the A-BIOMASS® camera developed by the aquaculture technology company.
