Aquaculture and fish tracking technology firm Innovasea has announced the appointment of Andreas Mintsios as its new Managing Director for the Mediterranean, where he will oversee operations from the company’s office in Greece.

In a press release announcing the new hire, the Boston-headquartered technology firm said that Mintsios will play a key role in shaping and implementing the its strategy across the Mediterranean aquaculture sector. He takes over the role from Diogo Thomaz, who Innovasea said will now work on other key initiatives within the company.

“Andreas’s vast background and wealth of leadership experience made him the ideal candidate for this role,” said Marc Turano, Vice President at Innovasea. “His problem-solving and relationship-building uniquely positions him to effectively support our current efforts and introduce new solutions that meet the needs of this strategically important area.”

A civil engineer who also holds an MBA from the University of Strathclyde, Mintsios joins Innovasea from Thraki SA, where he was Managing Director. His previous experience includes nearly 20 years in the aquaculture sector, notably at HELPA S.A., where he initially oversaw eel farming operations using partial recirculating aquaculture system (PRAS) technology. He later supported HELPA’s move into sturgeon farming, where he is credited with helping establish Greece’s first successful modern farmed caviar operation.

“I’m excited to return to aquaculture and proud to be part of a wonderful team committed to advancing and improving this industry,” said Mintsios. “Aquaculture offers the unique opportunity to challenge oneself and find creative solutions to complex problems.”

“Our goal is to deliver farmers the tools, solutions, and data that will allow them to leverage their own skills and expertise better. By combining cutting-edge technology with industry know-how, we’ll be able to help farm operators create more efficient, effective operations," Mintios continued, adding that he is "excited to continue Innovasea’s legacy on R&D by partnering with universities and research institutions in the region who share our vision for sustainable aquaculture.”

Innovasea recently announced a further two new senior level appointments within its European operations, with Torstein Mellingen named the new Director of Sales for the EMEA region, and Sigve Naustdal appointed the new Managing Director for Norway.
